The AUC facilitates the sharing of experience, insights, and knowledge among the strong community of developers, academics, creatives, and those who support learning using Apple technology in Australia and New Zealand.
For over a decade, we have done this primarily through three specialised annual conferences that we colloquially call the “worlds”: /dev/world, for OS X and iOS software developers; X World, for those who support people in their use of Apple platforms (including device deployment and management), especially in learning environments; and CreateWorld, for academics and creatives using Apple technology in innovative ways.
With recent times making face-to-face conferences and meetups less than desirable, the AUC is looking for new ways to help our communities share their expertise between and beyond the existing world events.
AUC Between Worlds will be a series of articles, video, and other content of interest to the AUC community that we plan to release quarterly, beginning in August 2022. Topics will span those covered by our world events. We’re especially interested in content that relates to Apple technologies in learning and in learning environments, including:
- Development — software development on, for, or around Apple platforms.
- Support — the support of people as they learn and work with Apple technologies and devices, including training, device deployment and management, FOSS and the Apple ecosystem.
- Creativity — creative endeavours using or around Apple platforms.
To that end, the AUC invites contributions for Between Worlds that would be of interest or benefit to other members of the community. Submissions could be:
- short articles of around 1500 words, focusing on a single area or topic, and providing a resource from which to move on to learn more;
- long articles of between 1500 and 5000 words, unpacking a range of related topics, or deep-diving on a single topic;
- short videos of between 5 and 15 minutes, exploring a single area or topic, and providing a resource from which to move on to learn more;
- long videos of between 15 and 45 minutes, exploring a topic in-depth, or unpacking a collection of related topics or;
- infographics explaining a complex or fiddly concept, making it easily digestible.
Audio-only or code submissions will also be considered, but should be accompanied by some written component to provide context. Other formats should be discussed with the AUC Publications Committee via email at publications AT auc.edu.au, or via the AUC Discord.
Proposals can be submitted online via the Submit a Proposal page. A response from the committee should be received within 2 weeks of the listed closing date, indicating whether the proposal is suitable in topic and scope for the next Between Worlds release.
If accepted, a deadline will be given for the final submission—typically within 4 to 6 weeks.
Submissions published in Between Worlds generally qualify for a modest recognition payment (terms and conditions apply). Authors retain full rights to their content, including the right to publish the content elsewhere.
