This page documents the terms and conditions of the AUC WWDC Scholarship programs.  They are important – please be sure you read and understand them all.


Scholarship Types

Allocated Staff Scholarships

Allocated staff scholarships are available to the following AUC members in 2012:

  • Australian Catholic University
  • Central Queensland University
  • Charles Sturt University
  • Curtin University of Technology
  • Deakin University
  • Edith Cowan University
  • Griffith University
  • La Trobe University
  • Monash University
  • Murdoch University
  • Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology
  • Southern Cross University
  • Flinders University of South Australia
  • University of Auckland
  • University of Southern Queensland
  • University of Sydney
  • University of Western Sydney
  • Victoria University

Those member universities not listed above received their allocated WWDC Scholarships in 2011.

Nationally Competitive Staff & Student Scholarships

Staff and students from all AUC member universities who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements may apply for a competitive scholarship via the application forms on this web site. Up to 15 staff scholarships and 20 student scholarships will be made available in these programs. These scholarships will be awarded by the AUC Development Fund Committee based on merit.


Eligibility

To be eligible to apply for a WWDC scholarship, applicants must:

  • if they are students:
    (a) be enrolled at an AUC member university;
    (b) be based in Australia or New Zealand; and
    (c) have at least a 75% full-time enrolment workload;
  • if they are staff:
    (a) hold no less than a 50% fractional appointment as an employee of an AUC member university, and;
    (b) whether through employment alone, or by considering employment by an AUC member university combined with enrolled student status at that or another AUC member university, have no less that an 80% commitment of normal working time to formal university activities;
  • be able to travel to the USA when WWDC occurs and have the relevant passports and visas required to do so;
  • have full comprehensive travel insurance when they travel to the USA, whether purchased separately, or covered as part of a University travel program;
  • if they are staff, have the written permission of their relevant department head to travel overseas on University business.

Selection Criteria

Allocated Scholarships

The selection process and criteria for allocated staff scholarships, whilst adhering to the principles and values of the AUC, is an internal matter for each member university, and the AUC does not take part in the selection process. You should contact your local AUCDF coordinator for information about the selection process and critical dates that apply at your University.

Competitive Student Scholarships

Competitive student scholarship applications that meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by the AUCDF committee to assess if:

  • the applicant is a software developer or enrolled in a program of study consistent with that career path and is able to demonstrate that attendance would assist in their professional or academic pursuits [essential];
  • the applicant demonstrates a commitment to share outcomes from the scholarship within their institution or the broader AUC community [essential];
  • in the case that the applicant has had previous AUC support to attend WWDC, that the applicant can provide evidence of contributing back to the AUC or broader community. Examples of such contributions include presentations delivered at /dev/world, X World or a similar AUC event, or a substantial sharing of software and experience, or the contribution of content to the AUC web site [essential where applicable];
  • the applicant has, or is likely to, develop shared, valuable software for MacOS and/or iOS  [desirable];

Competitive Staff Scholarships

Competitive staff scholarship applications that meet the eligibility requirements will be reviewed by the AUCDF committee to assess if

  • the applicant is a software developer or manages or teaches software developers, and is able to demonstrate that attendance would assist in their professional or academic pursuits [essential];
  • the applicant demonstrates a commitment to share outcomes from the scholarship within their institution or the broader AUC community [essential];
  • in the case that the applicant has had previous AUC support to attend WWDC, that the applicant can provide evidence of contributing back to the AUC or broader community. Examples of such contributions include presentations delivered at /dev/world, X World or a similar AUC event, or a substantial sharing of software and experience, or the contribution of content to the AUC web site [essential where applicable];
  • the applicant has, or is likely to, develop shared, valuable software for MacOS and/or iOS  [desirable];

Scholarship Conditions

Applicants agree that the AUC is running this program in good faith, and in the event that scholarship recipients are unable to secure WWDC tickets their scholarship will be cancelled and the AUC will be under no obligation to compensate any applicant for any loss incurred in relation to this program.

If awarded a scholarship to attend WWDC, recipients must:

  • commit to arrange their travel such that they arrive in San Francisco on the Saturday prior to WWDC;
  • if not travelling under the Visa Waiver Program, have received their visa authorising travel to the USA two full weeks prior to the start of WWDC;
  • make every effort to stay at the AUC-arranged group accommodation venue (Courtyard Marriott)
