WWDC Travel & Accommodation

Please note that we no longer run a WWDC Scholarship program. This page remains purely for historical purposes.

You need to arrange your own travel and accommodation, either through a local travel agent or your approved University travel office. The AUC cannot assist in organising flights and accommodation other then to provide information and advice.

Travel

Six major airlines fly from Australia/New Zealand to the west coast of North America. These are Air New Zealand, Qantas, United Airlines, Virgin Australia, Air Canada and Delta. Some flights are direct (e.g. United have direct Sydney to San Francisco flights) while others go via other major cities (Los Angeles, Toronto, Auckland, etc) with connecting flights to San Francisco.

A condition of the scholarship is that you must arrive in San Francisco on or before the Saturday prior to WWDC, and leave on or after Friday evening of the week of WWDC. See the FAQ for suggested travel times.

Accommodation

The AUC has organised a discounted accommodation rate with the San Francisco Downtown Courtyard Marriott in San Francisco. You must book by a date to be advised to secure this rate. The rate is USD199 per night (plus taxes).

Twin-Share Room (Two Queen Beds) <http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sfocd?groupCode=aucaucb&app=resvlink&fromDate=6/8/12&toDate=6/17/12>

Single Room (King Bed) <http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/sfocd?groupCode=aucauca&app=resvlink&fromDate=6/8/12&toDate=6/17/12>

The hotel is 2 blocks from the Moscone Centre, has free broadband in each room and the hotel lobby, modern clean facilities and is located in the heart of downtown San Francisco’s South of Market (SOMA) business district and just minutes away from Moscone Center, Moscone West, SBC Park (home of the SF Giants), Union Square, The Metreon Entertainment Complex, Yerba Buena Gardens and the SF Museum of Modern Art.

It is important that when booking accommodation you have a confirmed booking otherwise you may find you don’t have a room to stay in when you get there. A valid credit card is required to confirm all online reservation requests

For those that want to share accommodation at the Courtyard Marriott and would like assistance in finding someone to share with, the WWDC mailing list is a good place to start. You will be automatically subscribed to this group when you are confirmed as attending WWDC.

We expect WWDC scholarship recipients to get to know each other and build collaborative relationships that will continue beyond the event.  In part, we foster this through the group booking at the Downtown Courtyard Marriott in San Francisco. In order to receive the full value of the scholarship subsidy, attendees must stay at the Downtown Courtyard Marriott on the AUC’s group rate. Scholarship recipients are free to choose other hotels, but should they do so the subsidy will be reduced by $400.
